My mother exposed me to stained glass as she was beginning her new hobby. With a gift from my late brother, I purchased my start-up tools. My mosaics developed from the scraps of leftover glass from my leaded panels. It warms my heart that my connection with glass is influenced by my late mother and brother. I am one with glass; it is the paint on my canvas!
I use stained glass in all of my glass art, whether in leaded stained glass panels or mosaic art. Leaded stained glass panels are made using stained glass, lead came, solder, flux, cement and whiting powder. Mosaics are simply stained glass, glue, a solid surface and grout!
Color, texture and pattern inspire me. I love all of the unique characteristics glass brings to my mosaics, especially the iridescent and reflective qualities glass affords. I love to pull in complimentary and contrasting details, to further enrich each piece. I pay great attention to shape, size and flow of each piece of glass I hand cut. Grout also plays a contributory role in a finished piece, as I am always trying to please the eye. One can attempt to choose glass for an art project, but the decision is really made as one is in the middle of the beloved journey.
